It is the wish of the Haymaker family to have the
visitation and funeral here at Bethel Church, their church home. There will be
many police and city protocols that will be observed and as the church family we
must do our best to see that things run smoothly. Please pay attention to the
details listed below so you can be informed of the special circumstances that
will surround the next few days.
The details of visitation and funeral service are
as follows:
Visitation on Thursday,
February 25 from 3-9 pm.
There will be
a special ceremony with police officers on Thursday at approximately 7:00 pm. It
is suggested that those of us from the church family who would like to be
present arrive here by 6 pm. Parking will be at a premium; please consider
car-pooling. For the visitation on Thursday,
the Bethel parking lot will be reserved for family and friends, including the
Bethel Church family. Officers and public who are coming will be asked to park
on the street. Access to the building will be through the "canopy doors." On Thursday, you will need to access the parking lot from Winona.
Or feel free to park on the streets in the neighborhood. There will be a large
police presence directing the flow of traffic.
Many police
officers will be here to pay their respects. They will file in and file out, but
please feel free to have a seat in sanctuary and linger if you choose, as is
typical for a Bethel family visitation.
Funeral on Friday,
February 26 - Visitation 10-11am; Funeral Service at 11:00
am
Once again, parking will need
special considerations: On Friday, the parking lot will be reserved for
those who will be going to the cemetery. If you are not going to the cemetery,
please find parking on Foster Avenue on the west side of the church. There will be No Parking signs posted, but
these are for the neighborhood. If you are attending the funeral, feel free to
park there. If in doubt, ask one of the many officers who will be present
in the area. Once again, car pooling is an excellent idea.
Honors Ceremony &
Meal
Following the service in the
church, there will be an honors ceremony outside of the
church and then there will be a procession to MaryHill Cemetery (Dempster
& Milwaukee). After the interment at the cemetery the family and friends
will return to Bethel Church for a meal. If you are able
to attend on Friday, we encourage you to be a part of the meal time. This will
be the time (and the days following) for us to surround the Haymaker family with
our love, support and encouragement.
As stated before, it is the wish
of the family to have the services here at Bethel to retain the "family feel"
that they desire. We urge you to give the extra effort that may be required to
come to the visitation and funeral. The family needs to feel the love of
their church family as well as the outpouring of honor and support that will be
given by the city and state. Al Haymaker gave his life for the city - he died in
the line of duty and the city will honor him. Please pray with us that the Lord
that he loved will be honored in the midst of all the ceremony that will
surround his funeral.
Please continue to pray for the family; they have
had many decisions to make. We praise the Lord for the kindness,
compassion and efficiency of the team from the Police Department that has
worked with them. Pray that many lives can be impacted for the kingdom as we
celebrate Al's life and his love for the
Lord.
